SONIC CONCERTS PRESENTS
OPETH WITH SPECIAL GUEST KATATONIA
IN HALIFAX AND MONCTON, APRIL 23 & 24

Sweden progressive metal-rock giants Opeth are making their first trip to the Maritimes with performances in support of their latest album Heritage at the Multipurpose Centre in Halifax on Tuesday, April 23 and Casino New Brunswick in Moncton on Wednesday, April 24.  Special guest is Katatonia.

For the past two decades, Opeth has steadily amassed a body of work that is possessed of a fervent and unrelenting devotion to aesthetic progression while simultaneously scaling the summits of power, mysticism and might.

Though inspired by the group's hard rock forefathers in Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, the band's roots are in the doom-laden shade of occult-infused Scandinavian death metal and dark romanticism are undeniable.  The transcendent emotional and melodic heights achieved on their tenth full-length album, Heritage, marks a new chapter in the storied quintet's career.

Band leader, singer, guitarist, songwriter Mikael Åkerfeldt reshaped the pathway for Opeth’s latest album.  The virtuoso musicians made Heritage a mind-boggling dense maze of tempo shifts, off-time signatures, percussive experimentation and warped rhythms. It is all expertly melded together while there are multiple hints of darkness, the album moves the band forward into broader dimensions.

Special guest for the tour is fellow Swedes Katatonia who are touring in support of their 9th studio album Dead End Kings which was released to the praise of fans and critics in Summer of 2012. Much like Opeth, Katatonia's sound has progressed over their impressive 21 year career with their latest work blending their love of death and doom metal, with melody and morose atmosphere.
