NEWS: DIAMOND RINGS ANNOUNCES CANADIAN TOUR
DATES ACROSS CANADA
IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER
SOPHOMORE ALBUM FREE
DIMENSIONAL
OUT OCTOBER 22nd
Set to release his
sophomore album, Free Dimensional,
via Secret City on October 22nd, Diamond Rings (a.k.a John O) has
just announced a full Canadian tour in support of the record. Diamond Rings is currently on the road
supporting Stars in the US, after kicking off the tour together last night at
Pop Montreal. The bands have engaged
in a remix swap as a way to ignite their tour together, both of which
premiered earlier this week on
RCRDLBL. As previously announced, Diamond Rings will be appearing on the
Late Show with David Letterman on October 26th as his US
headlining dates get underway, before returning to Canada in November (full
list of dates below).
As evidenced by the reviews of his intimate showcase in Toronto
last month, his upcoming tour is sure to not disappoint. Armed with a
collection of 10 new songs, and now backed by a full band (including Graham Van Pelt—aka
Secret City label-mate Miracle Fortress), Diamond Rings is more than ready to road-test
Free Dimensional. The new tracks retain
the melodicism, clever juxtapositions, and lyrical honesty that garnered
kudos for his 2010 debut effort Special
Affections, while taking the production and technical side of things
to the next level. "I wanted the
first album to have that homespun quality," John O explains. "Once I became more comfortable with
the medium of electronic music, it was only natural to want to improve."
The unique melodies and heartfelt lyrics Special Affections, received widespread critical praise from not only
Pitchfork but also The New York Times and NME. This praise was
topped off with head-turning performances at SXSW and CMJ as well as
international tours with pop princess Robyn,
dazzling new-waver, Twin Shadow
and fellow Canadians, Junior Boys and PS I Love You.
