No Flyers Please - noflyersplease.bandcamp.com/
Minus World - minusworld.bandcamp.com/
Minus World started off the evening, with their trademark synth pop tunes and bang-on live drumming. While the band typically sounds better with a bigger PA system, thanks the reliance on keyboards and sequencers, their unaggressive, generally cheerful tunes certainly fit the atmosphere of the tiny Company House.
No Flyers Please always sound good, no matter where they play, and tonight was no exception. Maddeningly catchy tunes (like the video game nostalgia flavored Mario Party) and endless sing along choruses remain stuck in your head for days after an NFP show. The crowd took no time filling the dance floor and the band obliged with bumping tune after bumping tune.
Despite many previous attempts to catch the band, all foiled by work or other such commitments, we were finally present for an Alright Already set, aka the latest vehicle for singer/songwriter/absolutely everything-er Halifax staple, Sean MacGillivray.
With MacGillivray's 12-string electric guitar strummings rounded out by an ensemble of Halifax's finest (Jason Vautour, Andrew Wiseman and Arthur Doyle), Alright Already provides the perfect showcase for the catchy indie rock jams and soulful character studies brought to life by MacGillivray's now recovered vocals.
