NEWS: SONIC CONCERTS PRESENTS GREAT BIG SEA FRONTMAN ALAN DOYLE IN MONCTON & HALIFAX, JUNE 8 & 9
Actor, producer and frontman of Newfoundland’s Great Big Sea, Alan Doyle, will perform in support of his upcoming debut solo album Boy On Bridge, due out May 15 (Universal Music Canada), at The Capitol Theatre in Moncton on Friday, June 8 and at the Schooner Room in Halifax on Saturday, June 9. Special guest is Dustin Bentall.
Boy On Bridge was recorded in studios around the world and includes collaborations with Canadian stars like Colin James, Hawksley Workman, Jim Cuddy and Gordie Sampson. Nashville pros Troy Verges and Kelly Archer also made contributions, along with friends from the movie and TV worlds, Russell Crowe and Mike Post.
Both a labour of love and an artistic statement, Boy On Bridge, could be seen as a departure for the multitalented Doyle but it’s also a continuation of his own musical traditions. While the album branches around the globe, Doyle’s roots remain firmly in their soil.
Anyone who has seen a Great Big Sea show has already been convinced of Doyle’s presence and passion on stage. The dedication to ‘serving the song’ will be equally evident in presenting Boy On Bridge on stage through May and June. Ably backed by a crack four-piece band of talented multi-instrumentalists, Doyle’s show will feature new material, Great Big Sea fan favourites and an unexpected turn or two. Creating a distinctive blend of the traditional with the unconventional, Doyle continues his unbeaten streak of delighting concertgoers everywhere.
Doyle hails from Petty Harbour, NL, and formed Great Big Sea in 1993 along with Sean McCann, Bob Hallett, and Darrell Power. The band fused traditional Newfoundland music with its own pop sensibilities. Their nine albums and two DVD releases have been declared Gold or Platinum and have sold a combined 1.2 million copies in Canada.
Tickets are $29.50 in advance and $34.50 day of show (including tax) PLUS service charges and go on sale this Friday, March 30.
