NEWS: Folk Songstress Gabrielle Papillon Announces National Tour Dates and Canadian Music Week Showcases
Singer-songstress Gabrielle Papillon has her eyes set on the Canadian landscape yet again, with a cross-Canada tour mapped out for this spring. This tour, her fourth travelling coast-to-coast, sees Gabrielle bringing along bandmate and friend Corinna Rose for the adventure, and teaming up with Montreal-based artist Brie Neilson for the month of May in which the duo will become a trio featuring three-part harmonies, guitars, banjo, a ukulele, and even a trumpet. Gabrielle's tour kicks off in Toronto with a showcase during Canadian Music Week and in-store performance at French Connection.
Opting for the scenic route, Gabrielle and Corinna will be travelling as part of VIA Rail's Onboard Entertainment program, providing onboard performances for the travelers as they make their way between Canadian cities. Gabrielle is no stranger to Canada after recently completing her third tour cross-country in late-2011 with Kim Wempe. With over 250 shows under her belt Gabrielle has shared her indie-folk stylings and genuine lyricism with Canadians nationwide and shared the stage with the likes of Del Barber, Royal Wood, and Amelia Curran.
It was no surprise in 2001 when Gabrielle released her first album, Songs For a Rainy Day - even as a young girl Gabrielle could always be found humming a tune, and by her teen years she was already picking away on a guitar. After an eight-year detour which saw her complete her B.A. and Masters degrees, Gabrielle set her sights on the road in June 2010 and hasn't looked back since. In October of last year Gabrielle released her third album, The Currency of Poetry which she recorded at Montreal's Treatment Room (Stars, Timbre Timber, Plants and Animals). The album landed in the top 20 of !Earshot's national Folks/Roots/Blues chart, immediately after its release. Gabrielle is already working on a follow-up.
