Toronto, ON – February 28, 2011 – As one of their infamous songs proclaims ‘It’s been a long time coming. It’s well worth the wait’. Well the wait is over! The Tragically Hip is spending Canada Day with their fans. The Edge and Q107 are pleased to announce The Tragically Hip at Downsview Park in Toronto on July 01. Special guests will be Weezer, Broken Social Scene, Hey Rosetta! and Buck 65. Edge’s Inside Edge pre-sale begins this Friday, March 4th at 10am. The public on-sale commences on Saturday, March 5th (at all Ticketmaster outlets and www.ticketmaster.ca). Known for hosting brilliant festivals, The Hip will take a break from working on their latest studio album to cap off what’s sure to be a spectacular event.
“Canada Day and the Hip. They go together like a Bobby Hull slap shot bursting through the twine.” – declares Elliott Lefko, Goldenvoice.
Weezer released their eighth studio album, Hurley, on Epitaph Records last fall. In November they also released Death To False Metal, a compilation of previously unreleased Weezer recordings. The band will keep itself and fans extremely busy this summer with stops at T In The Park and Houston’s Free Press Summer Fest amongst others. www.weezer.com.
Broken Social Scene is always a favourite on the festival scene. Last summer they shone in the blazing sun on Olympic Island when they shared a fantastic bill with Pavement and Band Of Horses. This year their album, Forgiveness Rock Record was shortlisted for the 2010 Polaris Prize. They’re currently nominated for five 2011 Juno awards including nods for Alternative Artist of the Year and Alternative Album of the Year. www.brokensocialscene.ca.
Hey Rosetta! hail from St. John’s, Newfoundland. Known for their impeccable live show, the band has gained legions of fans with their intriguing brand of indie pop. They released their third studio album, Seeds, on February 15th. It’s already received glowing reviews and accolades across the board. www.heyrosetta.com
Buck 65 marked twenty years of making music by releasing 20 Odd Years on February 1st of this year. This critically acclaimed Juno award winning artist from Halifax, Nova Scotia, has engrained himself into the Canadian musical landscape, both as a performer and as a daily host on CBC Radio 2’s Drive.
