Praise for Braids:
Stereogum's "Best New Bands Of 2010" List
"BRAIDS, from Montreal, at #CMJ: enthralling Minimalist counterpoint, tinkly bell tones, pure harmony chorales and...boyfriend putdowns!" - Jon Pareles, New York Times
"Braids is utterly gripping live, simply because their intricate but accessible compositions are so well-crafted and sonically powerful that one would think they’ve been at it forever….It’s a modern sound that promises to become timeless." - Montreal Mirror
“The lovely, light “Lemonade” is the first single from the forthcoming Braids album “Native Speaker”... even though this song clocks in at almost seven minutes, it sounds terse and controlled, showing just enough pain — and skill — to make a point.” – New York Times
"Native Speaker is an amalgam of feminine assertion and unabashed lust" - Filter Magazine
"led by girl wonder Raphaelle Standell-Preston, who...packs one hell of a vocal punch that brings to mind a mix of Bjork and Kate Bush." - BUST
“They’re only wee, but this isn’t at all precious stuff. Somehow they’ve managed to sound colossal and timely all at once.” - The Tripwire
“...show the maturity and understanding required for a band to blossom into something great... Braids shows patience at an early age, letting the listener move with the changes in melody and pace.” - Herohill
“Not only are they able to craft 7+ minute experimental-rock epics with ease, but the ideas, songwriting, and high quality of performance are all aspects that truly define what it means for a new act to strive fearlessly for creativity... sprawling with original ideas that lead me to believe that this group is easily one of the most promising...” - Obscure Sound
“...BRAIDS let the song unravel like Stereolab would by keeping it so warm and beautifully controlled throughout. Not everyone needs to bottle up and explode and I think to be able to pull that off with the kind of music they make is pretty remarkable.” - Exclaim!
