THRASHFEST 2010 - Metal Brunch & Night #2 // Re-cap
Crawl to your knees and eat brunch if you please!

Review by Tyler McCaig
After a quick recovery from the first night of ThrashFest I headed out to the pub for the Brunch! I grabbed some of the festivals famous sausage and eggs coated in Hot Sauce while rocking out to Novichuk playing Symptoms of the Universe from Black Sabbath. The band played some awesome orginals along with a couple covers. Novichuk has a tight set and everything flowed together amazingly. The one thing I loved about the band was that during the whole set there was an incredible need to stomp my feet infecting me.

While Screaming For Vengeance was setting up my buddy was saying, "How metal do you feel right now? We're sitting in Gus' listening to Motörhead about to eat Satanic Sausage and watching a Judas Priest cover band set up"! Vocalist Peter Hubley was hitting all the high notes, I loved watching him with Broken Ohms but watching Screaming For Vengeance really showed his incredible high vocals! The crowd was tapping their feet and singing along to some classic Judas Priest covers. The old men hitting up the slot machines were rocking out during the set, they know what's up!

After a mid-day nap I hit up the second night of the festival featuring Ignightor, Cicada, Spew, Fistfight and Montreal’s Abyssed!
Ignightor kicked off the second night filling the room with smoke and ear shattering screams from vocalist Gypsy, aggressive guitars from Dan and high vocals and heavy bass from bassist Khaos. Their drummer was all over the set and his beats and kick matched everything perfectly! Gypsy has a crazy stage presence; she entered with a hooded cloak and held a miniature skull above a black cauldron. She raised her head and fists and yelled up to the sky, all the while Cicada’s Anson May was screaming along in her face, beer in hand!

After the cauldron was off the stage, they set up my favorite, the Djembe from Cicada’s percussionist Nathan Collupy. It’s controversial to say the least but I really like the idea of two percussionists, Nathan on the Djembe and Joe Pottie on the drums. I find it adds a nice touch to the aggression the band throws out throughout their songs. The other members of the band, guitarist Anson May and bassist Chester Long, both contribute vocals that scare little children as well! Overall I love these guys on and off the stage; they always throw everything into their stage presence.

I was however extremely pleased with the next band from Montréal, Abyssed! The guys had sick stage presence and the vocalist even jumped into the pit to rock out a couple of times. Abyssed played a solid set with a punk/metal feel to the riffs. Great song composition and again, their instruments, beer and fisted raised high in the air, awesome stage presence!
