Fresh From the Basement - Joy Departed

Get to know the up and coming talent in the East Coast/Canadian music scenes, with our new segment, Fresh From The Basement. We're getting the goods on the new music these bands are creating and where you can check them out live!

Our first feature goes to Halifax's own Joy Departed.
A four piece progressive metal band, inspired by the likes of Erra, Periphery, Counterparts and Edgar Allen Poe.

Band Name: Joy Departed

Bryce Holland - Lead Guitar/Backing vocals
Nicholas Dexter - Rhythm Guitar
Brady Crowell - Drums
Cody Bernard - Vocals

How did you all meet & start as a band?

Bryce : Cody and I met through a Facebook page called "Heavy Metal Halifax". Soon after, I found out a childhood friend, Nick was moving back home. I picked him up from the airport, drove him to my place and put a guitar in his hands and that was that. A few months later when looking for a drummer we were given Brady's name, a few weeks after him and I jammed, his hips didn't lie.

What inspires your songwriting?
Other musicians and events in our lives and a passion to grow.

So you write as a band or is there a main songwriter?
Bryce writes most of the material, and then its refined as a group

Tell us about your jam space?
We have two jam spaces, both of which are basements. One at Bryces home studio (Holland Audio Productions), and one at Brady and Codys house.
We jam at least once a week between each location.
