Halifax Pop Explosion has announced the initial acts for its 2014 lineup. The list of performers includes Against Me!, Danny Brown, Lights, Twin Shadow, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, and many more.

Halifax Pop Explosion takes place from October 21-25, 2014 in Halifax, NS. Passes for the event are available on Friday, August 1 HERE

Since 1997, Against Me! has been touring incessantly and releasing albums on respected labels. Their sixth album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues, deals with gender identity, love and loss, all of which singer Laura Jane Grace has dealt with in her life.

In an era of industry-obsessed MCs, interchangeable hashtag raps, and “viral” everything, it has become increasingly difficult to find a true original in the rap game. Yet ask anyone who’s been paying attention and they’ll tell you: Danny Brown is that dude. After a year of universal critical acclaim - from Spin naming XXX Rap Album Of The Year to Danny covering the Metro Times and Real Detroit in the same week as their Artist Of The Year - Danny divided his time recording his debut full length LP, OLD, and appearing on tracks by the likes of A$AP Rocky, Ab-Soul, A-Trak & Purity Ring

When electro-rock sensation Lights first hit the music scene in 2008, she was just a songwriter with a synth and a dream. Now, Canada’s acclaimed pop multi-instrumentalist and JUNO Award winner Lights is back with her third studio album, Little Machines.

Confess is the gorgeous, dynamic follow-up to Twin Shadow’s 2010 breakthrough Forget. That first record, co-produced by Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor and initially released on Taylor’s Terrible Records label before getting picked up by 4AD, garnered a lot of praise from the likes of Rolling Stone (“fully-formed, haunted and haunting”), Allmusic (“lush, intricate pop”), and Pitchfork, which named it one of the best albums of 2010.

Ghostface Killah comes from the multi-platinum artist conglomerate that is the Wu-Tang Clan. Since the Wu-Tang's inception and collective debut album, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), Ghostface Killah has developed a massive following through his participation in subsequent Wu-Tang members' solo projects, including Ol' Dirty Bastard's Return To The 36 Chambers, Genius/GZA's Liquid Swords, and most prominently on Chef Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.

Raekwon (the Chef), one of the nine talented emcees of the Wu-Tang Clan, shines as the purist of lyricists. When the time came for him to release his first solo album, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx (1995), hip-hop, once again, underwent a momentous transformation. To give an accurate analogy Cuban Linx is to albums what Scarface is to movies.

This year's Pop Explosion features a new venue, the Halifax Forum Multi-Purpose Centre, which will host Lights and a special show featuring Ghostface, Raekwon, and BADBADNOTGOOD.
"This year's festival will prove to be the largest, and most exciting Halifax Pop Explosion to date," says Executive Director James Boyle. "With the addition of the Forum Multi-Purpose Centre, we are able to offer a large, all ages, wet dry venue. The Halifax Pop Explosion is heading into its 22nd year and I couldn't be more happy with the lineup we have in store."
