From its humble beginnings in 2000 as a small, grassroots gathering, Evolve has literally evolved into unquestionably the top outdoor festival in Eastern Canada and one of the essential summer gatherings in the entire country. Over the weekend of July 11-13th in the spectacular rolling hills of the Annapolis Valley in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, thousands of people who love great music and our planet in equal measure will gather for Evolve’s milestone 15th edition.

EVOLVE FESTIVAL 2013Once again, Evolve will offer an incredibly array of musical talent -- over 100 bands and DJs on five stages. As always, the festival will feature some of the most exciting acts representing a huge range of musical styles from Canada and around the world, while staying true to its mandate of supporting Eastern Canadian artists. More than merely a music festival, Evolve is an immersive experience where attendees can savour camping in a gorgeously scenic location and nourish their mind, body and soul with delicious food, crafts, sustainable living skills and knowledge, the healing arts and more. Thousands of people will return to this beloved festival, joined by thousands of first-time attendeeds, because Evolve is an event with a remarkable ability to not only entertain but inspire. With admission free for kids under 12 years old, Evolve is also uniquely family-friendly; it’s an event that shapes kids to grow into our future in all the right ways.

According to a 2010 Antigonish Report (which can be found at http://bit.ly/61zcOZ ) the overall economic impact of the Evolve Festival is estimated to be approximately $1.8 million, in an area which has faced substantial economic challenges.

100+ artists from the Maritimes, across Canada & around the world on 5 stages

Evolve 2014 will showcase over 100 international & Canadian artists on five stages including: Canadian riot grrrl, Peaches, a revolutionary figure in electronic music who infuses sexuality and politics into pop territory; hip-hop founding father & Rock And Roll Hall of Famer Grandmaster Flash, the man who invented DJing and turntablism as we know it; Newfoundland’s breakout indie rock success story Hey Rosetta!, the powerful indie-rock group whose explosive live shows have earned them a devoted following around the globe.

Other Canadian headliners include: hiphop/bass music club favourites Keys N Krates, livetronica pioneers Jimmy Swift Band (reuniting for a final farewell show), Toronto hip-hop jazz trendsetters BADBADNOTGOOD, jam-rock road warriors Slowcoaster, award-winning folk troubadour Old Man Leudecke, and the Indo-Celtic mashup of Delhi 2 Dublin

Making a positive impact on people’s lives and the planet

With the help of a community receptive to sustainibility in action, coupled with a festival that’s sincere in its efforts for a green future, Evolve has been dubbed “Canada’s greenest festival”. Since its inception, Evolve has shown that it is possible host a joyful and fun outdoor music festival, while at the same time championing causes, highlighting environmental issues and impacting behaviours in ways that shape a sustainable future. The keystones of Evolve activism include:

  • The Awareness Village: Dozens of grassroots organizations and hundreds of passionate individual vendors, craftspeople and practitioners offer attendees the chance to build their skills and knowledge. This year’s workshops and classes include: massage therapy and reiki, yoga & meditation, yurt construction, hula hoop dancing

  • The Clean Concert Pledge: Every Evolve Festival has a zero-waste goal, and asks attendees to take a pledge of personal responsibility for waste and recycling.
  • Eco-Friendly Choices: Evolve actively facilitates carpooling to the festival to reduce emissions impact from thousands of long-distance travellers. All festival marketing materials are printed on recycled stock using waterless printing by service providers who use Bullfrog Power. Clothing and merchandise is made from organic cotton or recycled materials. Food vendors use compostable/biodegradable packaging.

  • Camping: Evolve is an immersive weekend music and camping experience. With paid festival admission, wristband-wearers are invited to free camping on soft grass in designated camping areas laid out around our fabulous Evolve site. Both General and Family camping areas are available; all camping is a short walk from the stages and parking areas and offers full-service facilities, including portable toilets, drinking water, and sink stations.
