REMEMBERING JAY SMITH

A BENEFIT FOR THE UNISON BENEVOLENT FUND TAKES PLACE AT THE CARLETON ON MARCH 26TH

March 26th, 2013 was the date of the last gig Jay Smith - solo artist and guitarist in the Matt Mays band - ever played. Most learned early the following day that Jay had taken his own life sometime during the night after the show. Waves of grief rippled through his immediate and musical families, his network of friends, and fans around the country and beyond.

The East Coast musical community immediately took action to organize events in Halifax and Sydney, NS to benefit the two small children he left behind and to help find a focus for the sadness. Those events raised over $200,000 from gate receipts, silent auctions, merchandise sales, and online donations thanks to the live streaming of those efforts.

A year has passed, but Jay's memory is still strong in all who knew him and to mark this anniversary, a benefit for the Unison Benevolent Fund is being held at The Carleton Music Bar & Grill in Halifax on Wednesday, March 26th. The evening will feature video of some of Jay's performances and the music of Jay Smith performed by the friends of Jay Smith.

Show time is 8 PM and tickets - available NOW at thecarleton.ca are $25. Donations may be made to Unison on Jay's behalf at the Remember Jay Smith Donation Page.
