NEWS: CALIFORNIA FOLK ROCKER WILLIE AMES TO PERFORM AT TORONTO'S INDIE WEEK

Having independently toured all 50 United States, singer/songwriter, guitar & banjo player Willie Ames has his sights set on  Canada.  With recent participation in Skylar Entertainment's Filmmaker Music Series during the Toronto International Film Festival and an upcoming showcase at Toronto's Indie Week, Ames is excited for his first time touring into Canada and internationally. The music festival runs from October 10th to 14th throughout different venues in Toronto.

The single "Night Owl" also the title track of Ames' current album charted for six weeks on Billboard's Hot Singles Sales chart debuting at #12 and reaching #8.  He is now a four time award winner/performer at the LA (2), eWorld (1), and Phoenix Music Awards.  "Night Owl" is currently nominated for Hot AC Single in the 2012 Los Angeles Music Awards! Willie is also currently nominated for Best Folk/Acoustic Artist in the Artist In Music Awards 2013!

Ames first learned to play the guitar at the age of 5 with simple lessons from his father who taught him how to form the basic chords A through G. From then on, he was self taught and  at the age of 18, Willie became deeply inspired by the music of Mark Knopfler with Dire Straits and Lindsey Buckingham with Fleetwood Mac.  Ames does not use a pick and, rather, uses the bare skin of his finger tips to finger pick. This allows for a more versatile sound and reveals more taste in his guitar playing technique. Ames' finger work can be heard in almost every music line he writes and is especially present in his instrumental track titled “Ice Breaker”.

At age 23, Ames picked up a 5 string banjo. With his crisp and well developed finger work already established on the guitar, learning and self teaching himself the banjo came naturally. He began to write his instrumental tune titled "Black Widow" within 10 minutes of first picking up the banjo. As many other banjo players play a bluegrass style of banjo, he digs deep to find a harder and darker rock type of sound.
