Alas, due to work schedules, I missed opened band Quaker Parents – having seen the band a number of times and at Gus' specifically I can pretty much picture there set, and rest assured that it was a quirky pop set filled with solid jams. Judging by reports from earlier attendees there was a strong crowd, which comes as no surprise.

The rest of evening was, in fact, filled with surprise. Scribbler was up next, with recent new fill in drummer Matt Blanchard on at least his 2nd show with the band, plus crucial original synth player Nathan Pilon. While never know for their pure technical proficiency, Blanchard laid down some sharp beats and is clearly meshing with the bands intentions for a rhythm section – which, incidentally, was also rounded out by substitute bassist Amy Vinnedge. Still the band made great work of their classic back catalogue, all topped off by guitarist/frontman Craig Currie's slow motion stage dive into the drum kit to mark the end of the set.

The final set, all though unbeknownst to to most of the crowd at the time, was Fuck Montreal, who I had heard but never seen live. To be honest they exceeded my expectations, with psychedelic delay ridden female vocals and simple but effective double floor tom work. Guitarist Alex Currie showed off a different side from his usual lead/noise style approach to Scribbler tracks with more chord work and songwriting hooks.

After this the show quickly devolved into rad jam sessions as neither Omma Cobba or Mess Folk turned out to play. By this point everyone no one was sober enough to care, and after some impromptu jams on stage the crowd filtered out into the warm summer air. Like the show, this post has no proper ending.
