Show Overview: HIND LEGS, CURSED ARROWS, COBRA CAMARO, LIKE A MOTORCYCLE - August 5th 2011 @ Gus' Pub

We arrived at Gus', after attending the Kuato EP release show, just in time to catch the last song of Like A Motorcycle, a fast rising three piece punk rock band with plenty of blues rock influence. Their matching guitars accompanied matching vocals from all three members. Guitar solos and bass fills a plenty ran along top of the no frills drumming and give the band the difference needed to stand out amongst the 100 other three piece rock bands that play Gus' every year.

Cobra Camaro (formerly known as Peeler – what's up with all these bands renaming themselves mid career? Though you have to admit it's a hard name to pass up) were up next, and there's not much to be said that hasn't all ready been – unbelievable vocals from a seemingly mild mannered young lady, who can scream with the best of them – ultra tight guitar that only comes from years of hard whiskey drinking – and tough, in your face drums and bass to round it all out. They're the kind of band that play songs like they're a kick in the head to the audience, and they don't stop until your ears are bloody and lifeless. Rumour has it that they're in the studio now producing a kick ass record, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for that.

Hind Legs started off their set with some impromptu lullabies and wedding toasts before delving into their set of grungy rock tunes. Front woman Halloway Jones screams, shouts, twists, and crones while the rest of the band drives the bus with fast and catchy drum and bass licks. Fortunately you don't have to take my stupid word for it, since we caught the whole set on tape as part of the Noisography Live Concert Series – so check back in a day or two and you can hear it for yourself.

Cursed Arrows finished off the night, showcasing their heavy, two piece sound with trademark tangled riffs and intense drumming. The bands seems to have grown steadily since moving to Halifax and they continue to hone their all ready well polished collection of cover songs – this time breaking out a rendition of Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box. Sadly we had to retire before the band finished their set but since married bands tend to stick together for a decent amount of time, we're optimistic on our odds of catching them again very soon.
