When we arrive at Gus' shortly after 10 on Saturday night, it was utterly deserted – more deserted than I'd ever seen it before. All the gear was setup in the stage, the tables nicely arranged and the new dance floor & carpet were shining and clean.

Oh, how we would change that.

By 11pm, the bar was buzzing and the Graboids were taking the stage. I knew any band with Adrian Bruhm would be entertaining (how do you think Rockin' 4 dollars got so fun?). The Graboids played fast, energetic Halifax punk, complete with songs about hockey (I think), TV, and going out to shows. They played a fairly lengthy set – I was pretty impressed that a band I've never seen had so many songs – but they'd clearly been practicing for a while as all their songs were tight and polished sounding.

Thanks to the Graboids , the Sleepless Nights had plenty of time to book it from the Seahorse, where they were opening for Yukon Blonde, and get into Gus' where a full house was waiting for them. The Sleepless Nights wasted no time in throwing down a set of classic dance rock and showing off some new tunes. I can't tell you what I really think about the Sleepless Nights – they're probably the hardest working band in Halifax and amazingly nice guys to boot. If the goal is to get the crowd dancing and pumped up then they're your go to band, and they're not lacking in popularity amongst any crowd, as proven by their double show Saturday night bookings.

Of course the real reason for this show is the unfortunate demise of one of the greatest bands bands in Halifax – Myles Deck and Fuzz. Years ago I was in a band with Myles brother, who was always talking about his famous big brother. I remember him as a kick ass drummer, so I was a little disappointed when I heard he'd formed a new band as an instrument less front man. Of course I quickly realized that there was no need to fear – not only had Myles lined up some of the best musicians in Halifax to form his band, but he had all the traits of a classic front man – attitude, a major set of lungs, and more attitude.

Mixing classic rock/punk influences like the Stooges and MC5 with their own modern brand of blisteringly tight hard rock, The Fuzz consistently delivered kick ass sets that always stood on their own, without any thought of “local band” or “Halifax scene.”A killer rhythm section is the key to any great band, but topped off with mad guitar skills and a rock and roll god for a front man, the Fuzz could have come from any era and any town and been world famous. While this particular combination of musical talent died this night on the tiny stage of a hole in the wall bar, I'm confident that we'll hear a lot more great music in future from all the members of the band.

While all the gory details of the show are captured below, in their entirely - in high quality audio and... regular video (blame the none existent lighting over Gus' stage), be remiss if you missed various (moslty failed) attempts at crowd surfing, a successful attempt at crowd surfing (it really works better if you're the singer of the band that everyone is there to see), and a stage so packed with sweaty, shirtless dudes that I had to close my eyes and remember the previous evenings entertainment. While you'll never see the Fuzz live again, you can always play their record over and over and over, and play it for your kids, so someday they can be in a kick ass rock and roll band too.
