Vancouver, BC – March 14, 2011 - 54-40 have roots reaching back to the early beginnings of the 1980 post-punk scene in Vancouver, BC. Their very first gig being a New Year's Eve show in 1981 at the Smilin' Buddha Cabaret, located in the heart of Vancouver’s East side. In the true spirit of early independence, the band back then would screen their own t-shirts, send photocopied newsletters to their fan club, and produced their own recordings on tape that were pressed and released on vinyl and cassette. They were immersed in the Much Music video craze of the 1990s and the digital world of CDs, Pro Tools, MP3s, and websites. Through 2000 and beyond, 54-40 have survived the rise of file sharing and adapted to the social media revolution, all in great stride. They are currently developing their very own mobile-phone application, a true reflection of how they have remained creative in an ever-changing music business.

2011 will be a busy year as 54-40 celebrate their “pearl anniversary” and release the 13th studio album titled Lost In The City. The material will be available through multiple digital formats with a scheduled retail date set for June 14, 2011. 54-40 has also launched a completely revamped website, integrating social media with a contemporary web 2.0 design and a focus on bringing the band closer than ever to their loyal fan base. A new feature of note is the Lost & Found Archive, which explores the legacy of 54-40 by offering up hundreds of never-before-seen photographs, videos and previously unreleased tracks, all with interactive commentary from 54-40 members and fans alike.

54-40’s 30th Anniversary coincides with Vancouver’s 125th Birthday this April, and the band is a part of official celebrations set to honor the city. “We are thrilled to be celebrating this incredible milestone for the band and sharing it with our favourite city in the world, Vancouver!” says bassist Brad Merritt.

54-40 will perform at Vancouver’s birthday event on April 6 at Jack Poole Plaza.
