Last Thursday, I was pleased as punch to be going to what I considered to be one of the best line-ups I had heard of in a while at Gus'. I mean seriously, 2 of Halifax's best pop rock bands on the same bill?
This was sure to be a kicker of a show!

I had recruited friend and Noisography affiliate, Jay Methot, as my partner in crime for the night. We rolled into the bar at a healthy 10:30pm thinking we would be right on time for the first band and possibly be able to grab a table at the back. To our surprise... there was hardly anyone in the bar.
I figured, things were just starting on a slow note, but this was a theme that continued throughout the entire night.

When No Flyers Please hit the stage, there was a healthy crowd of.. umm.. 15 people? Yea, I counted - and this included all the band members for all 3 bands. Still, NFP played on, as if thy were playing to a full house. Drummer/vocalist, Michelle Skelding, complained about being sick, but sang on, working with her extra raspy sound. Not going to lie, it definitely gave her voice a extra kick of sexy - reminiscent of Pheboe, in that episode of Friends.

Next up was Innes Wilson & His Opposition, from Guelph, Ontario. I had no idea what to expect from these guys. Drums, acoustic guitar and a bass rigged with pedals galore, an interesting combo for sure. Bassy, fuzz-folk is their genre - which is basically exactly what it sounds like, souped up folk music. It was the prefect combo of heavy, manipulated bass, indie folk guitar and vocals backed with seamless drums. Watching this band was an experience, I hope to have again.

Even after two fantastic sets of music, there were still only about 15 people hanging around.
At this point, it was almost like having an awesome live music dance party in your own living room.
Glory Glory Man United took the stage and almost immediately bassist, Gavin Maclean, requested everyone come to the front of the room and well, who were we to resist?
After the first few songs, GGMU's set list was basically disregarded as it turned into an all request kind of evening. The shouting out of song titles and hilarious stage banter made for an extremely intimate setting, which all 15 of us enjoyed.

I am still at a loss as to why this show had such a poor turn out, but at the same time - I'm kind of glad it did. Experiencing such an intimate show, after recently being at a few shows so packed, that Iwas actually afraid for my person, was nice. Really nice.

NFP and GGMU are playing together again tomorrow night for the Crafts for Kids: IWK BENEFIT @ Gus' Pub w/ Duzheknew, F-ck Montreal & Quaker Parents if you want to check them out. This will be a killer show and more than make up for the small crowd last week PLUS help some kids in need!
I will personally garuntee this show to be packed with people and with fun.

If its not - I'll come to your house and do your dishes for a year.
That's a promise.
