FOR YOUR PLEASURE
Art Opening by Cosmic Bubblegum – Lost & Found May 21st
FOR YOUR PLEASURE will feature deluxe screened reprints of classic Cosmic Bubblegum posters/album covers, as well as a brand new set of art prints. Performances by ECT and Friendly Dimension to follow.

HARD LIGHT – May 23RD – KHYBER BALLROOM
This year, the Obey Convention is pleased to present Hard Light, a one-day screening of experimental videos at the Khyber Centre for the Arts. Moving between music, technology, expression and perception, the event program features short works by twelve of the finest young videographers from across Canada, and beyond.

The program is followed by an aural journey through the Blasted History of Noise, and an open screening of video works. Please share your stuff! Bring a playable DVD of your own video art, fifteen minutes or less, and watch it on a big screen. (sound + image) / time = a special event, an afternoon of great art.

‘A BLASTED HISTORY OF NOISE’ (BHN) AUDIO AUDIO SERIES BY CRAIG LEONARD – MAY 22-24TH
A Blasted History of Noise is a series audio performances presenting over 100 significant noise albums from 1965 to the present. In a flow of samples from alternating records continuously intersecting across two turntables, Craig works his way through albums from Dave Phillips "They Live" (2009) back to Sun Ra's "The Magic City" (1965).

CROWD CONTROL SOUND & ART FAIR - MAY 24TH
A Celebration of independent art, music and the fair exchange of money. Record labels, zine makers, crafts people, and lots of other talented folks will be showing off their wares to the public. The event will also include weird workshops and performances throughout the day.

ALL WOUND UP! AFTER PARTY – MAY 24TH
All Wound Up is a collection of local hosers (aka MasterCrass) playing their favourite punk rock records while enjoying toast. Expect guest appearances by Obey participants.

Audio Visual Improvisation Lab with Amanda Dawn Christie
Saturday, May 23, 12PM @ North St. Church
Learn to improvise with visuals as well as with sounds! Visual improvisers will learn the basics of 16mm film projector operation and loop improvisation. They will have a chance to play with special prisms, mirrors, and lenses to send images all around the room. Musicians who are interested in exploring multisensory aspects of their work are invited to come along and improvise sonically with the visuals. No instruments or instruction will be provided on the audio end of things; its just a chance to experiment in the realm of collaborating and improvising on a cross sensory platform.

Registration:
Film Projectors: limited to 6 participants
Audio improvisors: no limit; open jam

Amanda Dawn Christie is an interdisciplinary artist working with experimental film, contemporary dance, and electroacoustic sound design. She holds and MFA from Simon Fraser University and her films have screened internationally. She currently works at the Faucet Media Arts Centre in Sackville, New Brunswick.

Improvisational Music with Garth Hardy
Monday May 25, 7pm @ Roberts Street Social Centre
A brief discussion about different strategies and approaches to musical improvisation, followedy - for those interested - workshopping an improvised score for Dziga Vertov's classic silent film, Man With A Movie Camera. Following one more rehearsal during the week, the film with live score will be screened on Friday, May 29th. Interested participants are encouraged to bring an instrument that they are comfortable playing - rudimentary music skills (in both reading and performing) are strongly recommended for the second component of this workshop.
