After two sold out album release shows at the Rebecca Cohn earlier this year, Matt Andersen returns to Halifax to perform two shows at Olympic Hall, accompanied by The Mellotones, on Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22. Special guest is The Town Heroes.

Performing together for the first time this summer, Andersen and Halifax's legendary nine-piece Motown band The Mellotones wowed audiences at a string of summer festivals, including Ottawa Bluesfest, Montreal Jazz Festival and Le Festival d'été, among others.

With over 2 million YouTube views, independent album sales over 30,000, a 2013 European Blues Award and winning Best Solo Performer at the Memphis Blues Challenge, the world has finally been introduced to Matt Andersen.

A powerhouse performer with a giant soul-filled voice and commanding stage presence, Andersen has built a formidable following the old fashioned way – touring worldwide and letting converted audiences and devotees spread spread the word. Now with Weightless, his debut album for True North Records, Andersen’s music has been captured on record as never before. The New Brunswick native shifts his formidable talents as a blues performer to his song-craft. The album includes co-writes with Joel Plaskett, David Myles and Dave Gunning, Tom Wilson and Ryan Hupman.

Andersen’s backing band, The Mellotones, bring tight harmonies, powerful horns and a funky rhythm section. Led by the talented Jeff Mosher on saxophone, he’s joined by a superb horn section featuring Jody Lyne on trumpet, Eric Landry with the trombone and Sean Webber playing alto saxophone. The band’s rhythm section reads like a who’s who list of the best in town, featuring Brad Conrad on guitars, Ian Mosher on keyboards, Mike Farrington Jr, on bass and Damien Moynihan on drums. Calgary guitarist Paul Rigby, best known as Neko Case's right-hand man, also joins Andersen and The Mellotones for the Halifax shows. Rigby was introduced to Andersen during the recording of Weightless when producer Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) brought him on board.

2014 is proving to be a banner year for Andersen with the successful release of Weightless and tours supporting Buddy Guy, Johnny Lang, Los Lobos and Old Crow Medicine Show. Prior to the Halifax shows, Andersen will tour Europe and departs for an Australian tour this December. His extensive discography now boasts seven albums, including one Christmas album, one live album, and two albums with harmonica player Mike Stevens.
