Despite being overwhelmingly acclaimed by all in attendance, Sappyfest VIII put the organization in financial trouble. Facing a deficite of over $15,000, the festival's organizers have put together a crowdsourcing concept that will let them pay off their debts as well as offering fans a piece of the fesitval's history; SappyForever, a 160 page hardcover archive. So far, the Indiegogo campaign has been a resounding success, earning over $17,000 of its $25,000 goal. The campaign can be viewed here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/sappyforever-rescue-mission-as-coffee-table-book

To help them reach their final goal, Picaroons Brewery of Fredericton, New Brunswick, will match every new contribution, dollar for dollar, over the remaining eleven days of the campaign (up to $5000). Picaroons has been our exclusive purveyor of quality beer and a strong supporter of SappyFest since 2007. This generous contribution is testament to the company's ongoing commitment to music and arts in the region.

"We're all really proud of this year's festival," says Sappyfest's creative director, Paul Henderson. "In so many ways, it was our best. Unfortunately, we came up short. It has been incredible to see the response from the community. This showing of support from Picaroons is beyond generous and a heartwarming reminder of what a wonderful community we've been able to become a part of over the past eight years."

Sappyfest started in 2006 with 250 people in attendance. Since then, it has quickly grown into a fixture Canadian music scene. Renowned and respected for both the festival's groundbreaking curration as well as the relaxed and welcoming atmoshpere of host town, Sackville, NB, Sappyfest has quickly developed respect on an international level. The festival has seen performances from headlining acts such as Arcade Fire, Eric's Trip, Charles Bradley, Chad VanGaalen, and Cat Pontoon as well as showcasing a long list of exciting young acts from around the East Coast.

The goal for the SappyForever campaign is to sell 250 advance books via Indiegogo at $100 a piece. If successful, the book will be 160 page collection that will include photos, essays, memories and a visual history of art and design displayed at Sappyfest. There will also be a copy donated to a library in every province and territory in Canada. Sappyfest is inviting each donor to contribute a photo of themselves or their friends at Sappyfest to be included in a 'Presented by' section.

SappyForever will also mark the last year that co-founders Paul Henderson and Jon Claytor serve as artistic and creative directors. They will assist in the transition, passing on the torch to a group of young people that will bring SappyFest into the future.
