NEWS: Eastlink East Coast Music Week announces winners in first five categories

Natalie MacMaster, Rose Cousins, Jenn Grant, The Once, and Tim Chaisson are the first artists to take home East Coast Music Awards at the 25th Annual Eastlink East Coast Music Week.

The Warner Music Canada Roots Room not only saw performances from acclaimed artists such as Mary Jane Lamond & Wendy MacIsaac and Ben Caplan, several awards were also handed out during the evening. Prince Edward Island's Tim Chaisson received the Roots/Traditional Solo Recording of the Year for his album, The Other Side. Newfoundland's The Once took home the Roots/Traditional Group Recording of the Year for Row Upon Row of the People They Know. Nova Scotia's Rose Cousins won the Folk Recording of the Year for her album We Have Made A Spark. Cape Breton's Natalie MacMaster received the ECMA for Traditional Insturmental Recording of the Year for Cape Breton Girl.

Across town at the Ticketpro Pop/Rock Stage, Jenn Grant received Pop Recording of the Year for her album The Beautiful Wild during a night that also saw her perform alongside artists such as The Tom Fun Orchestra and Ria Mae.

Tonight (Friday, March 08) sees the presentation of eight awards at venues around Halifax, including: Aboriginal Recording of the Year, African-Canadian Recording of the Year, Blues Recording of the Year, Country Recording of the Year, Electronic Recording of the Year, Jazz Recording of the Year, R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, and Rising Star Recording of the Year.
