NEWS: SONIC CONCERTS PRESENTS JILL BARBER AND MATTHEW BARBER IN HALIFAX, NOV. 22

Critically-acclaimed songstress Jill Barber is returning to Halifax in support of her latest release Mischievous Moon with her brother Matthew Barber at the Spatz Theatre on Thursday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m.

Inspired by the likes Ella Fitzgerald and Edith Piaf, Barber follows up 2008’s Chances, which reached for a place on the international stage.  A multiple East Coast Music Award winner and JUNO Award nominee, Barber’s fourth album was enriched by an artist residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts in the Canadian Rockies with long-time producer and collaborator Les Cooper. Violinist and composer Drew Lurecka also helped with the writing and arrangements that appear on the record.

“From the initial soaring strings on singer-songwriter Jill Barber's fourth album, Mischievous Moon, glamour beckons. Sad bus rides and boring living rooms are transformed instantly to some sort of old Hollywood sound stage where virtually every moment is steeped in elegance and beauty…” – exclaim!

“…proof of the songstress’ articulate and confident manipulation of a sound which has become all her own.” – The Coast

Matthew Barber released his latest Songs for the Haunted Hillbilly in June. The album features Barber’s songs penned for the darkly comedic musical Haunted Hillbilly that is based on the book by Derek McCormack.  The album features all the Barber-penned numbers from the darkly comedic musical play Haunted Hillbilly (based on the book by Derek McCormack).

Tickets are $35.49 in advance and $40.49 day of show (including tax and service charge) and go on sale this Friday, July 13 at 10 a.m., exclusively at www.sonicconcerts.com
