Show Overview/Photos: Hey Rosetta! @ The Halifax Forum - March 22nd 2012
Words & Photos by Dan Nightingale
I arrived at the Forum on the unseasonably warm March evening where a growing crowd was still stretched out the door, as the sound of Halifax musical veterans Heavy Meadows blasted out of the entrance way. Inside there was a sizable crowd rocking out to the opener's thick, rocking pop tunes.

The crowd continued to grow, and I have
to say, having played with these guys at venues like the Marquee and
the Seahorse(!), I was pretty impressed with the size of crowd
they've managed to draw in the few short years since. There was much
fan fare and applause as the band took the stage and crashed into
their opening number. The light show was spot on and the sound wasn't
cranked to within in inch of it's life, which makes all the
difference in a giant concrete box like the Forum.
While their popularity has inflated
(as well as the ticket prices), Hey Rosetta! certainly earns their
fame - with lush, dynamic songs, strong songwriting, and haunting
melodies juxtaposed over a maritime flavoured hard rock feel.
It's
highly unlikely that you, and maybe your parents at this point,
haven't heard of Hey Rosetta!, but on their current trajectory, I
wouldn't be surprised to see these guys recognized all around the
world really soon. With a recent Juno nomination and
performance under their belt, they've certainly captured the Canadian
market; I look forward to seeing what else the band produces in the
flight towards the top.
