“BEST OF 2011” CRITICS CHOICE

“A world-class statement from a world-class artist, the beguiling Ms. Smith teamed with some of the city’s best musicians — corralled into service by producer extraordinaire Lorrie Matheson — to bring to life her lovelorn songs of heartbreak, ache and desire.” Top 5 Albums of the Year, Calgary Herald, December 26, 2011

“The debut from Calgary’s Samantha Savage Smith is really as stunning, engrossing and as fully realized a recording as one could hope to hear from the most seasoned of artists, announcing her presence and signaling many wonderful things to come. With an antiquated voice that floats like cigar smoke in a brandy snifter, music that mingles effortlessly with shoegaze, soul, torch and alt twang — and songs that fall into the emotional moments between dusk and slumber — she casts a spell that is near impossible to shake, and one into which you’ll want to return again and again.” – Best Album of 2011 – Vancouver Sun, December 22, 2011

Calgary’s Samantha Savage Smith instantly charmed media and music fans with her beautifully crafted debut album Tough Cookie, released locally in April of 2011. Heavily influenced by blues, jazz, and indie-rock Tough Cookie was recorded by producer Lorrie Matheson (Rae Spoon, Ghostkeeper) at his Arch Audio Studio in Calgary over 2010. At just 24 years old, Samantha then found Arts & Crafts distribution on board to release the album nationally in September of 2011 and a whirlwind of media interest followed.

Samantha has graced the covers of magazines, performed on national TV, played the festival circuit including NXNE 2011 and performed international gigs in the U.S. A particular performance highlight being a November 2011 musical guest appearance on CBC Radio 1’s celebrated radio program “Q with Jian Ghomeshi” when the show travelled to Calgary.

Samantha and her band will embark on a headline tour Canada through February and March, including stops at Canadian Music Fest in Toronto at the end of March. Following CMF she will head out for an East Coast run of shows the wrap in early April. More information on gigs and upcoming news is available at: samanthasavagesmith.com
