NEWS: Cold Specks Announces The May 22nd Release Of "I Predict A Graceful Expulsion"

New Arts & Crafts signing Cold Specks to release debut full length album in the wake of critically acclaimed single, "Holland".  Dates upcoming, including March 22nd Canadian Music Festival show as well as a North American tour with Great Lake Swimmers. Full tour dates listed below.

Cold Specks is Al Spx from Etobicoke, Canada.  Having made critical waves in the U.K., with  television performances on Later with Jools Holland and British media such as The Guardian, The Times, NME and more weighing in on her debut single “Holland”, Cold Specks is now receiving some very well deserved attention here at home. “Holland” is backed with the song “Old Stepstone” and was released as a limited edition 7 inch as well as digitally on December 13 on Arts & Crafts. Cold Specks performed three stunning sets opening for St. Vincent in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal in December as well as a television performance on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight in January. Now she prepares for the May 22nd release of her debut album “I Predict A Graceful Expulsion”.

Describing her sound as ‘Doom Soul’, Cold Specks’ music is steeped in the musical traditions of the Deep South. It is no wonder then that Al cites the Lomax Field Recordings and James Carr as influences along with Bill Callahan and Tom Waits. With a voice that evokes the ‘spirit feel’ of Mahalia Jackson and the visceral tones of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Cold Specks’ sparse arrangements and chain gang rhythms stop you dead in your tracks.
