Sometimes great ideas are sitting right on your doorstep, or so it would seem for pop-folk darlings, The Provincial Archive. This spring the band will make Canadian tour history with one such great idea: travel coast-to-coast performing in Canada’s Provincial Archives.

“We had the idea last fall, when the Provincial Archives of Alberta asked us to perform in-house. We couldn’t help but laugh at the confusion that would ensue from the band playing a venue by the same name,” says lead archivist Craig Schram. Months of work were dedicated to planning the logistics of a tour that will see 27 performances in 30 days from St. John’s, NL to Victoria, BC. This is no small feat considering the additional complexity required to get the archives on board.

As if this weren’t enough, the band is releasing a new single, “Drive,” to mark the beginning of the tour. This single represents the first major song writing collaboration with the band’s drummer, R. Bramwell Park, and will be available as a free download from the band website. “We’ve always felt that there is a strong connection between the idea of Archiving, and writing songs. So for us, this tour is more than just a name.”

Indeed. But what a name.
